Prison Ministry
Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison and ye came unto me.
(The words of Jesus in Matthew 25: 36, King James Version)
Our prison ministry started on January 6, 2004- when we went to a jail about 25 miles from here to visit a friend's nephew. She told us that he had been raised in church, but had strayed from the Lord and had ultimately ended up behind bars. She asked if we could go to the jail and show him some encouragement. So we did.
The young man enjoyed our visit- and when we went back the next week, (on clergy night), he told us that there were other inmates who wanted to talk to us.
So started a ministry that has taken us to many jails and prisons in both North and South Carolina- at distances from 13 to 182 miles away!
We have visited numerous inmates over the years- so many, in fact, that we lost count a long time ago!
Our intentions when we visit those who live behind bars is to tell them about Jesus; to have them accept Him as their Lord and Savior; and then to try to help them adjust to life on the "outside" when they are released.
We have taken former inmates to probation appointments and court dates; to job interviews; to register their DNA- (for those who are registered sex offenders); and we even took one to get his hair cut!
We also go to the homes of the registered sex offenders and do one-on-one Bible studies with them, since these people are not allowed to attend church services in North Carolina.
We write Bible studies and send them to those who are incarcerated, and we also send them study Bibles whenever ministry donations allow us to do so.
We will use this page to post a few of the letters that we have received- and continue to receive-from some of these inmates.
We pray that their letters will bless you as much as they bless us.
